For any parent, a child’s first milestones are always a cherished memory. Time flies by so soon that you never realise how this 2.5-month-old crying sleepy baby turns into an active talkative mini best friend of yours just days away to take their first step into the real world.
Sending a toddler to school can be a bittersweet feeling. On one hand you are worried about the little one’s separation #anxiety. On the other hand, a sense of relief for yourself for getting that few hours of #freedom. As a parent myself I was both preparing myself and my kid to welcome this new change as smooth as possible, not knowing that the challenge has just begun.

The hunt begins…

There are more than 20,000 preschools and #Montessori in #Bengaluru city alone. Some of them are big franchise while others include are local aganwadis. From being a knowledge and skill acquiring centre it has become more of a business hub. From seeking eager #students, they are after yearning customers. It is said that a child’s 85% of brain development happens in the early years of their school lives. So it is important to have a strong base for them to excel in the future.

Here are some things to take into consideration while picking a right education center for your little ones.

Many big cities don’t have ample space to build play areas for children. Most of the play schools in residential areas are usually homes converted into play school. They always claim to have “ world-class” amenities but many of them still lack basic hygiene and have poorly maintained play areas.

A play school may be small but it should have ample space for kids to play indoor and outdoor without being over crowded . have a decent student to teacher ratio of around 1: 10. Keep in mind that the playschool is clean, hygienic with proper safety measures installed for the kids.

While any of the #schools claim to offer “state of the art” facilities with highly qualified teachers, the come along with a high price tag, not to forget the hidden charges for #extracurricular activities and events (field trips , annual day , festivities, celebrations etc.)

In a city like #Bengaluru , fees usually ranges from INR 20,000 – 80,000 per year for #playschool and can go up to 2 lacs! A play school in #Delhi even charged almost 4.3Lacs as fees (costing more than a parents entire schooling fees!) So ensure that the school does not milk you out for 3 hours of your child’s day.

3) Atmosphere

It is very important for a child to feel that a school is a home away from home. Having a positive fun happy environment encourages a child to look forward to going to school . Ensure that school is at a proximity to your home/office so that picking up and dropping them doesn’t mess with your hectic schedule there by providing you with #work-life #balance.
Schools nowadays ensure they adapt to play and learn curriculum where learning isn’t restricted to traditional classroom learning. With balance of structured play and free play, the school helps foster all the necessary skills' #problemsolving vocabulary and practical concepts without burdening the little ones.

At the end of the day, though the decision of weighing all the pros and cons can be confusing, it all boils down to the playschool that has a child-friendly fun atmosphere where qualified teachers can foster social and #academic #development and be a part of your child #future success.

As for me , I have found a place where my child wakes up happily, eager to go to do something new every day.
